"Sunny" in Japan: Information from Takashi Okutaki

MIEKO HIROTA -- female singer who did "Sunny" originally. (Mieko is first name. Hirota is last name. Her nickname is "Miko".) Mieko Hirota was a very famous female pop singer in 60's to early 70's, like Annette Funicello. She covered a lot of the Billboard hits, such as "Vacation" and "Don't Treat Me Like A Child". This photo is her 7" single picture sleeve of "Vacation" (sung in Japanese).

In Japan, "Sunny" was covered by a lot of singers or bands in the mid 60's, including The SPIDERS (famous garage band in 60's) and Shintaro Katsu (world famous male actor, fame "Zatoichi") and more.

Notice how close this 45 cover from Holland looks compared to the Turkish release! A variation on the disc from Turkey. This version of "Sunny" is supposed to be more bluesy - we are investigating if it is a rare Sunny we've not heard !!!

Notice how Bobby is holding the guitar in the right hand position on this sleeve, and in the left hand position on the Turkish cover. Did the record label flip the photo from positive to negative for this effect?

A beautiful "Sunny" picture sleeve from around the world, this one from Istanbul, Turkey!!! Notice how the face was utilized in triplicate for the "Love Love Love" off-red picture sleeve.

Description

THIS IS A BOBBY HEBB PROMOTIONAL 45 RPM RECORD ON THE PHILLIPS LABEL, NUMBER 40551. TITLES ARE "DREAMY" AND FLIP SIDE IS "YOU WANT TO CHANGE ME". THESE LABELS LOOK GREAT TO ME AND SO DOES THE VINYL. IT IS VERY SHINY WITHOUT ANY SCRATCHES. THE DREAMY SIDE HAS A COUPLE OF MARKS BUT I CAN NOT FEEL THEM.SO MAYBE THEY ARE CONSIDERED SCUFF MARKS. I HAVE PLAYED THIS 45, ONLY ON THE DREAMY SIDE. IT PLAYS JUST FINE. I DIDN'T PLAY THE OTHER SIDE AS I SEE NO REASON WHY IT SHOULD NOT PLAY. I HAVE SEEN THIS ARTIST LISTED IN SOUL, AND IN THE TITLE "NORTHERN SOUL"? I GUESS IF THAT IS WHAT EBAY EXPERTS CONSIDER HIM, I WILL FOLLOW SUIT. BUT PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, I AM NOT SURE, AS THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE ANY SOUL MUSIC, I HAVE EVER HEARD.

Kenny Gamble 45. Gamble wrote "Love Me", a sequel to Sunny, and produced "Dreamy" along with the song co-written by his partner Leon Huff, "You Want To Change Me"

dreamy / you want to change me

The rare gamble & huff 45, a true gem, it is amazing. kind of like elton john's thom bell
sessions.

Grammy Award for Lou Rawls with a Bobby Hebb song

the title track to this album was co-written by the late Sandy Baron and his friend Bobby Hebb.
It was an out-take from a Broadway show that Hebb and Baron wrote. This particular album cover is Canadian. Universal released a compilation of Lou Rawls on CD with both titles
written by Hebb and Baron - "His Song Shall Be Sung" - a great tune written as a tribute to Marvin Gaye sung by Lou.

The Georgie Fame cover

Bobby Hebb took Georgie Fame to the Apollo to see Jackie Wilson perform! Bobby also pitched the song to Cher and all three artists hit with the tune in the United Kingdom.

Laurie "Sunny" single

Bobby re-recorded this in 1976 with I believe it was the producer of Frankie Avalon "Venus" remake -
SUNNY was tracked again in Germany, March 2003 for release on Bobby's next album on www.roofmusic.de
